Kansas City, Missouri — Bernie Sanders concluded his mid-day rally at the Kansas City Convention Center today with a challenge to Hillary Clinton.
“Secretary Clinton. You have earned millions and millions and millions of dollars from private speeches at Wall Street investment firms, big pharmaceutical companies, and insurance companies. Millions of dollars! Will you, Secretary Clinton, pledge today to donate the proceeds of your speeches to the Federal government, and not keep them locked up in your private Clinton Foundation? Will you turn over the assets of your foundation to the Federal government, so that those assets can be used more effectively on behalf of the American people?
“Secretary Clinton, I will never understand why you have been keeping these millions and millions of dollars locked up, to hand out only for the charitable purposes that your private Clinton Foundation sees fit. You and I both know that it is government–not greedy private enterprise and not huge mega corporations and not hot shot Wall Street bankers–it is government that has made this country great. The Federal government is the best steward for those assets.
“Secretary Clinton, Donate that money!
“I know you will do the right thing, and I look forward to hearing from you very much.”
USA Today estimated Bill and Hillary Clinton’s combined net worth at $100 to $200 million. The Clinton Foundation has raised more than $2 billion since its inception
